General Motors Egypt and Africa announced the appointment of Rohan Fernandes as chairman and managing director of GM Egypt and Africa.
Fernandes joined GM in 2016 and has held senior leadership roles across Customer Care and Aftersales and Commercial Operations. With more than 25 years of international experience in the automotive and energy sectors, he brings a strong track record of transforming multi-country businesses and delivering sustainable growth across the Middle East, Central Asia, and Oceania.
Commenting on his appointment, Fernandes said: “I am proud to join GM Egypt as Chairman and Managing Director and to lead a company with such a strong legacy in the country. I look forward to building on GM Egypt’s manufacturing excellence, strong partnerships and customer trust as we drive the company’s next chapter of growth.
“Our focus will be on delivering sustainable growth, bringing more of GM’s global capabilities, technologies and products to Egyptian customers, and offering vehicles that meet their needs across price points and powertrains. Through continued investment, stronger manufacturing capabilities and close collaboration with our stakeholders, we will reinforce GM’s long-term commitment to Egypt.”
Fernandes succeeds Sharon Nishi, following the leadership transition announced by GM Egypt and Africa in May 2026. Under Nishi’s leadership, GM Egypt and Africa expanded its commercial vehicle market share, re-entered the passenger car market with the locally produced Chevrolet Optra, and further strengthened Chevrolet’s position as the No. 1 automotive brand in Egypt. The business also laid the groundwork for export operations, strengthened supplier partnerships and government collaboration, and relaunched Cadillac in the market with partner Mansour Automotive Group. Fernandes will build on this strong foundation, continuing the momentum in advancing GM’s growth ambitions in Egypt and across Africa.
